The Jerusalem District Court sentenced Elior Chen who stood at the head of a cult whose members abused children and was convicted of a long list of abuse charges to 24 years in prison and NIS 700,000 ($192,494) in damages.
Chen was convicted in October 2010 after he escaped to Brazil and was later captured there. The judges ruled that "the appalling acts of violence and abuse are seen in each of the eight children that carry the deep scars". Chen's followers were each sentenced to between 17 and 20 years in prison. (Aviad Glickman)
