J'lem protests: Indictments filed against 17 rightists

Rightists who protested against Havat Gilad razing charged with disturbing the peace, assaulting officers; police demand they be temporarily banned from capital

Indictments were filed with on Tuesday against seven young men and 10 teenagers who blocked the entrance to Jerusalem during Monday night's protests against the razing of structures at the illegal settler outpost Havat Gilad.

 

The detainees were charged with disturbing the peace, assaulting police officers and damaging police squad cars. Police demanded that they be temporarily banned from the capital.

The indictments were filed with the Jerusalem Magistrates' Court.

 

Eight other rightists who were arrested Monday have been released from custody. Seven female rightists who were detained near the home of Deputy State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan have also been temporarily banned from Jerusalem.

 

A total of 25 rightists were arrested during the demonstrations in Jerusalem. Some of them burned tires and clashed with security forces.
