Police fire on Egyptian prisoners trying to escape

Security officials say Egyptian police opened fire on prisoners trying to flee a jail in the northern part of the country, leaving some of them wounded.

None of the prisoners escaped Wednesday, and officials were not able to immediately say how many had been injured or provide specifics on their condition. The attempted prison break happened in Damanhour, about 81 miles (130 kilometers) northeast of Cairo. (AP)
