Turkish journalists questioned over coup plot

Police have escorted two leading investigative journalists to an Istanbul court for questioning by prosecutors in an investigation into an alleged plot to topple the Islamic-rooted government. The prosecutors could decide whether to press charges against Nedim Sener and Ahmet Sik as early as Saturday. Their detention along with six other journalists has drawn expressions of concern from Western governments and international media rights groups.

The suspects face accusations of membership in an alleged network, Ergenekon, which is accused of conspiring to overthrow Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government. About 400 suspects are on trial in the case. The government rejects allegations of trying to muzzle dissent and undermine Turkey's secular legacy. (AP)
