The government opposed a bill proposing to raise the wedlock age in Israel to 18, instead of 17. The bill was proposed by Knesset Member Hanin Zoabi and MK Dov Khenin who claimed 17-year-olds in today's liberal society have not yet finished their studies and are still living under their parents' protection.
Justice Minister Yaakov Ne'eman said the issue is currently being examined by the government and so at this point in time the government objects the bill. (Roni Sofer)
