Japan's gov't sets up joint nuclear response HQ

Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan says the government is setting up a joint response headquarters with the operator of a stricken nuclear reactor to better manage the crisis.

Kan told reporters early Tuesday that he will personally lead operations at the headquarters, which will be located at the main office of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. The utility is working to prevent reactors at its Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant from going into meltdown. (AP)
