Yoav Mordechai named IDF spokesman

New IDF chief of staff Gantz appoints former West Bank Civil Administration head to coveted position, instead of Galant's nominee. Mordechai to replace Benayahu in coming months

IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz decided to appoint Brigadier General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai to be the next IDF spokesman.

Mordechai has recently served as the Head of the Civil Administration in the West Bank. According to the IDF spokesman, Mordechai is expected to replace Brig. Gen. Avi Benayahu sometime in the near future.

"Brig. Gen. Mordechai served in the intelligence ranks and helped coordinate operations for many years. He has a rich history of operational and command experience," said an IDF spokesman official.

Benayahu will be resigning after four years as the IDF spokesman, but is not expected to hang up his uniform just yet. In the coming months he plans to take on a project which will be "decided upon by the IDF chief."

Recently Colonel (Res) Lior Lotan removed his nomination for IDF spokesman after his recommender, Major General Yoav Galant, was not named IDF chief.
