US State Department Spokesman Philip Crowley addressed the deaths of the 15 protesters in the southern Syrian city of Daraa, saying that the US is concerned about the Syrian government's use of violence.
Crowley condemned the brutal use of force, and called on the Syrian government to use restraint when dealing with non-violent protesters. This was the US government's first response to the unrest in Syria, which has lasted for the past few days. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington, DC)
