VIDEO - British Ambassador to Israel Matthew Gould laid a wreath at the scene of Wednesday's terror attack in Jerusalem which killed UK citizen Mary-Jane Gardner on Thursday. "This was a callous and disgusting act of terrorism directed against innocent civilians," he said.

The ambassador stressed London was concerned about escalation on the Gaza border. "We are also gravely concerned about the continuing rocket attacks on Israel and the recent deaths of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. We urge all parties to restore calm and work to avoid a spiral of violence," Gould said.

"As you are aware, the woman killed in the attack was a British citizen," the ambassador noted, "the Embassy and Consulate General in Jerusalem are doing everything possible to assist her family."

Gould arrived at the scene of the terror attack together with Britain's Consul General to Jerusalem Sir Vincent Fean. "It was very important for us to come here today to pay our respects at the scene of yesterday’s terror attack," Fean said.

"We utterly condemn this attack. What we saw here yesterday was a painful reminder of decades of violence experienced by the residents of this Holy city. We hope and pray that we will not see a return to those dark days," he added.

Israel Police had a hard time indentifying the British woman killed in Wednesday's attack because she was not carrying any identification at the time of the attack, in which 38 people were injured – two of them seriously.
