UN chief urges Syrian restraint

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday said demands by Syrians for democratic reforms are legitimate and should be respected by Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"Governments have an obligation to respect and protect their citizens' fundamental rights," Ban said, calling for Syrian authorities to exercise restraint. (Reuters)
