Omani police fire tear gas on protesters
Witnesses say Omani police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse hundreds of protesters demanding the release of people detained in crackdowns by security forces.
The witnesses say the clashes broke out after Friday prayers in Sohar, an industrial city in northern Oman where pro-reform demonstrations began in late February against the tight political controls in the strategic Arabian peninsula nation. (AP)
