Korean MPs on business trip in Israel

Delegation of 10 parliament members arrives in Jewish state for first visit to inaugurate Israel-Korea Chamber of Commerce

A delegation of 10 Korean parliament members arrived for a first visit in Israel in honor of the establishment of the Israel-Korea Chamber of Commerce.

During the inauguration ceremony, delegation head Lee Byung-Suk said he viewed the chamber of commerce as a real leverage for advancing the commercial and economic relations between the two countries.

He stressed that the delegation was intentionally comprised of all parts of the Korean parliament's coalition and opposition in order to demonstrate the importance Korea sees in advancing the relations.

Dr. Park Jin, chairman of the Korean parliament's science and economy committee, said he would work to sign a free trade agreement with Israel, which would boost the volume of trade between the countries in the fields of technology, biotech, robotics and renewable energy, and strengthen existing collaborations in the fields of IT and semiconductors, the auto industry and more.

Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz stressed that the relations with Korea were important to Israel in many fields.

"The two countries have managed to overcome inferior opening conditions with the absence of natural resources, and rely on human resources and on constant development of technology and high-tech. In fact, the two countries complete each other as economies rather than compete against each other," he said.

Attorney Ami H. Orkaby, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, said the organization would work to create a bridge between the business cultures and will set up a database for business opportunities in Korea.

During the visit, the delegation's representatives met with President Shimon Peres, Knesset Chairman Reuven Rivlin and Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon.
