Palestinian gunman shot near Gaza border

Tensions rise in southern Israel as mortars hit Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council; soldiers fire at gunman spotted near security fence

IDF forces patrolling near the Gaza security fence fired on a Palestinian gunman spotted near Erez crossing. Palestinian sources reported that two people were injured in the incident.

Earlier Tuesday, two blasts were heard in the vicinity of Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council, likely from mortar shells hitting the area. IDF forces are canvassing the area. The Color Red alert system did not sound.

Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch toured Sderot on Tuesday and said that the city's residents must brace for more shelling, adding that "Israel cannot abide this situation. We won't keep quiet about rockets or mortars."
