EU 'deeply disappointed' by Gilo construction plans

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on Wednesday criticised Israeli plans to build more than 900 homes in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo, saying they represent an obstacle to peace.

“I am deeply disappointed by the approval of 942 new housing units in the Israeli settlement of Gilo, east Jerusalem,” Ashton said in a statement. “These plans may further damage an already fragile political environment." (AFP)
