Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein plans to order an investigation by the State Prosecutor's Office into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's flight funding, Ynet learned Thursday.
A Channel 10 investigative report has revealed thatNetanyahu traveled abroad at the expense of various businessmen during the time he served as MK and finance minister between his two terms as prime minister.
Legal sources predict that Weinstein and the prosecution will probe the case at first, seeking police intervention only if they suspect foul play on Netanyahu's part.
If suspicions are not confirmed, the State Comptroller will continue his investigation of all flights taken by ministers and their aides from 2006, which was initiated after Channel 10 made its findings public.
Netanyahu is now also suspected of double-billing a trip to the US in 2006. After the allegations were made Wednesday, again by Channel 10, the Likud Party announced that the second receipt had been canceled and threatened to sue the news agency for libel.
