Israel's Navy on Saturday arrested an 18-year-old Iraqi citizen who crossed the naval border between Jordan and Israel by riding a Jet Ski. Soldiers feared the woman was a terrorist and followed protocol by firing in the air.
Beachgoers in Eilat reported hearing gun shots. The tourist was handed over to the police.
"There is no suspicion of terrorist activity," commander Lior Ben-Simon from the Eilat Police said. "The tourist has been detained and will return to Jordan after the investigation is completed."
The IDF also estimated there was no terrorist intention behind the infiltration but an error.
Several similar incidents have occurred in the past few years.
