Yemen protests persist over leader's women remark

Hundreds of thousands are demonstrating in major Yemeni cities denouncing the president comments against women taking part in protest rallies. More than 100,000 protested in Taiz and tens of thousands others marched in Ibb, Aden, Shabwa and other cities. Women participation in the marches Sunday, which also demanded the president step down, was heavy.

In a speech Friday, President Ali Abdullah Saleh said the mingling of men and women at protests in the capital was against Islamic law. (AP)
