Senior Hamas official: Shalit deal – on our terms
None
Hamas senior official Mahmoud al-Zahar declared that the Shalit deal would only go ahead on Hamas' terms. "The occupation must understand that all its attempts over the last five years have failed when faced with the Hamas and the Palestinian people's patience."
Moreover, following Prime Minister Netanyahu's appointment of David Meidan to the role of special negotiator for the release of Gilad Shalit, al-Zahar called on Israel to comply with all of his movement's demands. "Pressure won't lead to the completion of a deal," he said and added that Hamas sees prisoners as "living martyrs" and yet they must act to have them released. (Elior Levy)
