Japan triathlon postponed amid nuclear crisis

None

The International Triathlon Union has postponed a world championship series race in Japan over health concerns as the country continues to grapple with a nuclear crisis caused by last month's earthquake and tsunami.

ITU President Marisol Casado said Tuesday the nuclear situation was still "too risky" to hold the May 14 triathlon in Yokohama, which is about 300 kilometers (185 miles) south of the crippled Fukushima nuclear reactor.Earlier this month, Olympic champions Jan Frodeno and Emma Snowsill said they would boycott the event if the ITU didn't cancel it. Casado said the ITU would try to reschedule the triathlon, which is an Olympic qualifying event. (AP)
