Syrian security forces open fire on rally

None

Activists say Syrian security forces fired tear gas and live ammunition in an overnight raid on anti-government protesters who took over a main square in the country's third-largest city.

The activists said Tuesday there are several casualties from the raid on the Sa'a Jadida Square in the central city of Homs. It was not immediately clear how many people were wounded and whether anyone was killed. Protesters had taken over the square Monday and vowed to stay until President Bashar Assad is ousted. (AP)
