NATO says that an alliance airstrike has killed a key al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan. The international military coalition on Tuesday identified the slain figure as Abu Hafs al-Najdi, also known as Abdul Ghani, and said he died in the strike in Kunar province on April 13.
NATO says the man, a Saudi citizen, was an important al-Qaeda operative in the eastern province of Kunar, traveling regularly between Afghanistan and Pakistan to coordinate with associates across the border. NATO says the airstrike that killed al-Najdi also killed a number of other insurgents. (AP)
