Broad EU consensus for action on Syria

European Union member states are broadly agreed that some action is needed against Syria, including the possibility of sanctions, a senior EU foreign policy official said on Friday.

Asked about the possibility of the EU imposing sanctions on Syria, Pierre Vimont, the secretary-general of the EU's diplomatic corps, said: "I think there is broad consensus among member states that action is needed." (Reuters)
