Syrian security forces have arrested two opposition figures who had called for pro-democracy demonstrations in the eastern city of Qamishli, a Kurdish source said on Sunday.
Abdel Qader al-Khaznawi and Abdel Samad Ali played a role in the protests, which have intensified in the region after President Bashar al-Assad sent tanks six days ago to crush an uprising against his authoritarian rule in the southern Arab city of Deraa, the source added. (Reuters)
