State: Fallen soldier's outpost home to be spared

State tells High Court Eli home of Major Eliraz Peretz, who was killed in Gaza, will not be razed pending alternative housing solution for his family

The State on Tuesday informed the High Court of Justice that the outpost home of Major Eliraz Peretz, who was killed in Gaza in 2010, 12 years after his brother Uriel Peretz was killed in an explosion in Lebanon, will not be razed until an alternative housing solution is found for his family.

The State's brief was in response to five Peace Now petitions pertaining to the enforcement of building permits in West Bank outposts.

The petitions included a complaint about Peretz' residence, in the West Bank settlement of Eli, north of Ramallah.

The Defense Ministry's legal division was consulted over the response, and ordered the special dispensation. Nevertheless, the ministry will also take steps to increase its enforcement against illegal building in the West Bank.

The Civil Administration is expected to begin rapid eviction proceedings of all illegal outposts built on private Palestinian land, be it by agreement or – if needed – by force.
