Abbas says Palestinians turn 'black page' of rift

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in Cairo on Wednesday that Palestinians had turned the "black page" of division at a ceremony to mark a deal to end a rift between his Fatah movement and Islamist group Hamas.

"We announce to Palestinians that we turn forever the black page of division," said Abbas, who was speaking at the ceremony. Abbas also said that "Israel must choose between settlements and peace." (Elior Levy and Reuters)
