US, Pakistan agreed on mission to kill bin Laden 10 years ago

The United States and Pakistan struck a secret deal almost a decade ago allowing American forces to operate on Pakistani soil against Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, killed last week, according to the Guardian.

 

According to the report, former US President George Bush and Pakistani military leader General Pervez Musharraf agreed in 2001 to permit US forces to conduct a unilateral raid inside Pakistan in search of Bin Laden. Afterwards, both sides agreed, Pakistan would vociferously protest the incursion. (Yitzhak Benhorin)
