Airlines demand written fuel clearance

Israel Airport Authority to provide foreign airlines with written guarantee that Ben Gurion Airport jet fuel up to international code

Six days after the Ben Gurion International Airport plunged into a jet fuel crisis, Israel Airport Authority delegates met with representatives of various foreign airlines.

The IAA will reportedly provide foreign airlines with a written authorization stating that the fueling terminal at Ben Gurion Airport is finally contamination-free and that its jet fuel reserves are up to international code.

Despite repeated statements saying that the Ben Gurion fueling terminal was contamination-free, traces of the contamination were still evident during some of Monday's inspections, leading several airlines to fuel abroad.

Air Force personnel have joined IAA staff and are testing each jet fuel batch prior to the planes' refueling.

Initial assessments say the foreign airlines sustained millions of dollars in damage. The reason for the contamination has yet to be determined.

Continental Airlines CEO Avi Friedman, who serves and chairman of the Foreign Airlines' Panel, told Ynet that the latest news were reassuring, adding the next stage will be to wait for the inquiry's results, which will held in the determining the damage and possible restitution.
