UN committee: Al-Qaeda sanctions still needed

German Ambassador Peter Wittig says that Osama Bin Laden's recent death constitutes a "turning point," but international sanctions are still needed to counter actions of groups linked to his al-Qaeda network.
Speaking Monday as the chairman of the Security Council's sanctions committee on people and groups associated with Bin Laden, al-Qaeda and the Taliban, Wittig says that assets freezes, travel bans and similar measures remain "essential" in the face of terrorism's continued threat to international peace and security.
