Iran: Jewish MP slams killing of 'Nakba' protesters

Iran's parliamentary representative for Jewish community condemns IDF actions against demonstrators on 'Nakba Day'

Iran's parliamentary representative for the Jewish community condemned the killing of "Nakba Day" protesters by Israeli security forces, the Fars news agency reported.

In a Monday statement, Siamak Mare Sedq, who represents Iranian Jews in the Islamic Republic's parliament, he condemned the killings of Palestinian demonstrators by the Israeli troops in the border areas of Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and the West Bank on the "Nakba Day".

Sedq expressed his sympathy towards the "oppressed people of Palestine" adding more efforts should be made to help the Palestinians regain their rights, according to the news agency.

Four people were killed Sunday and dozens were hurt on Israel's northern border Sunday after Syrian infiltrators marking "Nakba Day" trampled the border fence and were shot by IDF forces.

Magen David Adom emergency services said 13 people were lightly wounded on Israel's side of the border near the Druze village of Majdal Shams, including 10 IDF soldiers.

Meanwhile, thousands of Lebanese citizens gathered at the Maroun al-Ras boardwalk near Moshav Avivim to protest. Lebanese Army forces pushed them away from the border by firing warning shots in the air.

According to later reports, Israeli forces also fired in the air to repel Palestinians demonstrating at the border, wounding dozens. At least 10 people were reportedly killed and more than 100 were hurt at the site.

IDF officials said the casualties were likely hit by Lebanese forces, who directed heavy fire at the protestors.

Near Gaza Strip, IDF forces opened fire at a Palestinian man who was apparently trying to place an explosive device near Kibbutz Nahal Oz. In another incident soldiers spotted several Palestinians who approached the border fence near the Erez crossing and fired at their legs, the army said.

The Associated Press reported that an Israeli tank fired two shells at Palestinians approaching the fence and injured at least 15 of them.

Also on Sunday, hundreds of Palestinians clashed with IDF forces at the Qalandiya checkpoint in northern Jerusalem. Four police officers were lightly injured from stone hurling in several incidents in east Jerusalem, and a total of 36 Palestinians were arrested.
