Foreign Ministry slams Williams over statements on 'Nakba Day'

The Foreign Ministry condemned UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams for accusing Israel of using brutal and disproportionate force against Lebanese protestors who attempted to infiltrate Israel at the village of Maron A-Ras during "Nakba Day" events on Sunday.

The ministry said in a statement that there was no doubt that the protestors' intended to enter Israel, and that their violent behavior even prompted the Lebanese army to fire warning shots. It was also said that since Williams wasn't on the scene, his statements are unbalanced and do not contribute to the effort to achieve calm. (Ronen Medzini)
