Rose's grandmother commits suicide

Isabelle Deshayes, maternal grandmother of 4-year-old murder victim, jumps off Normandy bridge

Isabelle Deshayes, the maternal grandmother of four-year-old Rose Pizem, who was found dead in the Yarkon River in 2008, committed suicide by jumping off a bridge over the Seine River in Normandy nearly two weeks ago.

The 48-year old Deshayes's daughter, Marie-Charlotte Renault, was convicted of solicitation to murdering her own daughter Rose.

Renault's mother fell to her death from a height of 60 meters on May 10. Her body was carried by the Seine to a spot two kilometers from the bridge from which she threw herself.

On Thursday Rose's grandfather, Ronny Ron, was convicted of murder, while Renault was found guilty of solicitation to murder. Renault burst into tears upon hearing the decision and was escorted out of the courtroom. Ron remained motionless.

Deshayes attended just one court hearing on the case since Rose's death three years ago. Of her daughter she said, "She didn't call me even once to ask how the little one was doing." Rose had resided with her grandmother in France before coming to Israel.

"She called me just once to ask me how to make a lemon tart. During this conversation she never once asked about her daughter."
