Syrian forces kill, wound civilians

At least five dead, dozens injured after forces shoot protestors coming out of cemetery

Syria ignores US warnings: At least five people were killed and dozens were wounded Saturday afternoon after Syrian security forces fired at civilians in the city of Homs, a human rights activist said.

The casualties were shot at the end of funerals held for 13 protestors killed Friday.

According to the activist, tens of thousands of people took part in the funerals, and were shot upon leaving the cemetery.

On Friday, 44 protestors were killed in Syria, including 13 in Homs, marking the deadliest day since demonstrations against President Basher Assad's regime started some two months ago.

Syria's official news agency said 17 people were killed, including members of the security forces. The news agency blamed "armed gangs" for the violence.

According to human rights groups, the protests claimed the lives of at least 900 people thus far.

US President Barack Obama addressed the Syrian situation Friday at the end of his meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Obama said he provided the PM with more details about American moves against Syria, including personal steps against Assad.
