Abbas: Palestinians do not aim to isolate Israel

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit that the Palestinians "are not trying to isolate Israel by attempting to achieve UN recognition of a Palestinian state, but ask for the recognition of Palestine as an occupied state," the Jordanian Petra News Agency reported.

According to the report, Abbas, who is visiting Jordan, defended Hamas during his conversation with Bakhit, saying the organization is "part of the Palestinian society." (AFP)
