Gilad Shalit's family calls US senators to urge Obama to stop PA, Hamas funds pending his release. 'The PA is directly responsible for Gilad's well-being, has clear duty to locate him,' they wrote
The Gilad Shalit activists, led by Yoel Marshak and Orna Shimoni, initially met at Yad Mordechai Intersection and headed towards Erez crossing.
At one point the activists noticed the Brinks vehicle and quickly worked to block off the road using their bodies. They then began to circle the car, calling the Brinks representatives to refuse cooperating with the transfer.
The activists carried signs with the slogans: "Funds for Hamas = Ongoing captivity of Gilad. When will it end?" and "Fischer and Netanyahu, stop funding murder."
Police forces arrived on the scene saying the protest was illegal and demandedthe activists clear the road. After the demonstrators refused, the Brinks representatives consulted with their managers and after a while decided to retreat.
'PM must make bold decision'
"We believe it's immoral to transfer funds as long as Gilad is still held captive by Hamas," explained a protester, calling the government to halt all funds to the Gaza Strip until Shalit is freed.
"We're here to tell you we're not willing to agree to the transfer of money to the Gaza Strip. There's a soldier that's been held captive for nearly five years now without a sign of life and without visitations, while Hamas prisoners in Israel receive visitation rights and different perks," insisted Yoel Marshak.
"The prime minster must make a bold decision and work to release Gilad Shalit. We're not going to allow money to be transferred so it can be used to fund the holding of Shalit by Hamas," he concluded.
