UN: Palestinian state requires Security Council support

The president of the UN General Assembly said Friday there is no way that a Palestinian state could become a member of the United Nations without a recommendation from the Security Council.

Joseph Deiss told a news conference that if the United States or any other permanent council member used its veto, the General Assembly would not be able to vote on membership for Palestine. (AP)
