Warden jailed for giving terrorists phones

Ketziot Prison warden received $6,000 for handing cell phone to al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades member

The Beersheba District Court on Sunday sentenced Monir Halabi, a former senior warden at Ketziot Prison, to 20 months in prison for providing terror convicts with cellular phones.

Halabi was convicted in accordance with a plea bargain citing bribery, breach of trust, and fraud charges. His attorney says she will study the verdict and then decide whether to file an appeal.

In one case, the indictment says, he received $6,000 for a phone he conveyed to a member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades. In another he helped pass along phones hidden in cigarette cartons.

He then began hiding the phones in camera cases or the lockers that hold employees' personal items, the indictment adds.
