UK gives $3.4M for Auschwitz preservation
British Foreign Secretary Hague says determined to ensure that Holocaust is never forgotten
British Foreign Secretary William Hague is backing up his recent statement that "Auschwitz-Birkenau is a searing reminder of the horrific consequences of intolerance and hatred. It should never be forgotten."
Britain announced on May 26 that it would contribute 2.1 million pounds ($3.4 million dollars) to help preserve the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.
Auschwitz-Birkenau is the most infamous symbol of the Holocaust, with one million Jews murdered there, mostly in its notorious gas chambers.
"I am determined that the government should take an active approach to preserving the memory of the Holocaust," said Hague.
