MK Isaac Herzog (Labor) told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that "the day after the the United Nations votes on a Palestinian state in Spetember, an intifada might break out and we need to prevent it with bold moves."
During a hearing at the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Herzog claimed that Israel needs to support a UN recognition of a Palestinian state, on condition that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas begins negotiations based on permanent borders and security arrangements with Israel.
