2010 sees slight rise in battered women's shelters inhabitants

Some 765 women and 1,097 children resided in battered women's shelters throughout 2010, a slight rise compared to 2009, the Social Affairs Ministry said Tuesday.
According to the data, 76% of the women turned to the shelters due to violence on the part of their spouses, about 4% due to violence on the part of their former husbands, and about 20% due to violence in the immediate or extended family. (Omri Efraim)
