Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared during a speech that Jerusalem will never be divided again. Speaking at a formal ceremony to mark Jerusalem Day, the prime minister said "we will not go back to a split and lacerated city," adding that "the next generation will promise the future of Jerusalem as a united and prosperous capital."
