Officials: Militants kill 8 troops in NW Pakistan

Pakistani intelligence officials say Taliban fighters attacked a security checkpoint in a tribal region along the Afghan border, sparking a clash that killed eight Pakistani soldiers and 10 militants.

The clash occurred late Wednesday in the Marabi area of the South Waziristan tribal region. The two intelligence officials said Thursday that seven soldiers were also wounded in the attack. (AP)
