Six Day War plot on Mt. Herzl desecrated

Plot where fallen soldiers from war, helicopter disaster are entombed found in disarray; police investigating

The Mount Herzl Military Cemetery plot where soldiers who were killed in the Six Day War are buried was found desecrated Thursday.

The plot is also the final resting place of some of the soldiers killed in the 1997 helicopter disaster, which claimed the lives of 73 IDF servicemen.

Maintenance workers of the national cemetery were the ones to call authorities, after finding the plot in disarray. While none of the headstones were truly damaged, police found the greenery in the plot uprooted.

A police source said that since the headstones were left intact and no graffiti was found to suggest a nationalistic nature to the crime, the investigation is currently focused on multiple avenues.

Authorities have no suspects in custody at this time.

"This is a very serious act and we will spare no effort in tracking down the suspects," a Jerusalem Police source said.
