Turkey's ruling AK Party was on course to win a resounding victory in Sunday's parliamentary election, having won 56 percent of the vote with 21 percent of the votes counted, broadcaster Haberturk said.
In 2007 it won with 46.5 percent of the vote. Opinion polls had suggested Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's AK Party would take between 45 and 50 pct of the vote this time. The centre-left CHP was on 18 percent while the nationalist MHP was on 12 percent, exceeding the 10 percent threshold required for parties to enter parliament, Haberturk said. (Reuters)
