China's Defense Ministry says Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has pledged to work for closer ties between the two countries' militaries during a visit to Beijing.
The ministry says Barak made the statement in a meeting Sunday with the chief of staff of the People's Liberation Army, General Chen Bingde. The ministry gave few details of their discussions in a brief report posted Monday on its website. It quoted Barak as saying that Israel values military-to-military relations with China and wants to work with Beijing to strengthen them further. (AP)
