Settlements to get hotlines, call buttons

Hotlines will also serve Palestinians, function 24 hours, and alert rescue forces to emergencies

The Knesset's Joint Committee for the Defense Budget on Monday decided to earmark NIS 10.3 million ($3 million) for the establishment and renovation of emergency hotlines in West Bank settlements.

Fourteen new hotlines will be established, and will function 24 hours a day similarly to a war room, the committee decided.

Their job will be to alert rescue forces such as firefighters, paramedics, the IDF, and the police. In addition, the hotlines will coordinate between the various forces in the event of an emergency.

In order to alert the hotlines, call buttons will be placed in educational institutions and kindergartens.

The committee also decided that hotline personnel will be ordered to provide assistance to Palestinian residents of the West Bank as well as Jews.

Hotlines are needed in order to ensure safety after some IDF checkpoints were removed from the West Bank, the committee heard during Monday's debate.
