UN finds northern Syrian towns almost emptied

None

The UN refugee agency says villagers are abandoning the northern Syrian town of Jisr al-Shughour and surrounding areas after recent violent clashes between Syrian forces and protesters.

Agency spokesman Adrian Edwards said Tuesday that UN officials found the town almost deserted and nearby villages and farm fields also are being emptied evidence of "significant displacement" of people. (AP)
