Israel's new Ambassador to United Nations congratulates Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on his re-election for second term at helm of organization

WASHINGTON — Israel's new Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor on Tuesday made his debut appearance at the UN General Assembly as the head of the Israeli delegation.

 

Prosor congratulated UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for his re-election for a second five-year term, which was unanimously approved by all 192 members of the organization.

 

 

This month, Israel is serving as the current chair of the Western European and Others Group (WEGO). As part of its chairman duties, Ambassador Prosor represented the group members in the steps leading to Ban's re-election.

Speaking at a special gathering at the General Assembly, Prosor said he was honored to congratulate the secretary-general on behalf of the western countries, adding that the unanimous support he received from UN members testifies of the broad recognition in his exceptional leadership skills.

 

Prosor mentioned Ban's unwavering commitment during the past five years and his efforts to promote peace, security, stability and human rights, and give answer to many conflicts as well as natural disasters around the world.

 

The new ambassador was among five WEGO representatives that greeted Secretary-General Ban on his re-election.
