New: 'Kosher' preventive driving course

Transportation Ministry begins operating separate classes for men in bid to reach out to haredi public

The Transportation Ministry has opened segregated preventive driving courses for ultra-Orthodox men wishing to avoid studying alongside women.
Ynet has learned that the initiative was launched following requests received from some parts of the haredi public. According to a source in the ministry, a haredi person not interested in taking a mixed course may study in a segregated classroom.
"We accepted their appeal as this is a sensitive matter," the source stated. "One must understand that the haredi sector is very strict about using segregated buses, and suddenly here they face mixed classrooms with secular girls for many hours."
In a bid to reach out to the haredi public, the Transportation Ministry is holding the segregated classes on different days than the classes held for all other drivers.
"If a person makes an effort to come to a segregated class, he won't want to run into girls during the break either, so their classes are on separate days," the source said.
