A karate teacher won compensation in a rare court ruling against Russian police after being beaten for hours by drunk officers, a rights group said on Tuesday.
A court in the provincial capital of Nizhny Novgorod, some 400 km (250 miles) east of Moscow, ordered the state to pay Alexei Yakimov 200,000 roubles ($7,200) in damages for a night in 2009 when two officers brutalised and tried to drown him. (Reuters)
