Peres: Rabbis have responsibility to preserve rule of law

President Shimon Peres met with Chief Rabbi of Israel Shlomo Amar to discuss the recent arrests of rabbis Dov Lior and and Yaakov Yosef in connection with the controversial book "The King's Torah."

"The rule of law is the basis for our existence, and everyone is equal before the law," Peres told Amar. "The rabbis of Israel have a great responsibility to preserve these principles." Amar has urged rabbis and public leaders to "be careful with their words and avoid extremism." (Ronen Medzini)
